NCAAB March Madness weekend 03/21-22/2015 – Madness weekend time

The Wildcats have covered in 14 of 16 games.

Ohio State needed overtime to beat VCU only 3. Despite Lennard Freeman leading the Wolfpack with a modest 5.6 rebounding average, this is a team for whom boards are a strength since they gang-rebound well and have solid depth up front. He got to the Elite Eight with ‘Bama in ’04 and reach a Sweet 16 with his current school in ’12. State team likes to flirt with disaster and then has the fighting spirit to overcome. State has covered seven of its last nine games.

Head coach Jay Wright is coaching in his 10th NCAA Tournament at Villanova and went twice as a young head coach at Hofstra. The Wolfpack also looked to be in trouble barely a month ago, entering a Valentine’s Day visit to Louisville on a run of five losses in six games. They upset the Cards to start a run of wins in six of seven, including conquests at UNC and Clemson. How else do you explain the Wolfpack’s win over LSU on Thursday. Arizona’s harassment of opposing ballhandlers has been the catalyst for its high-level defensive efficiency thus far in the season, as UA ranks second in the Pac-12 with an average of 7.2 steals per game.

UA has been able to impose its will inside the arc on both ends of the floor this season, outscoring its opponents by an average of 13.7 points per game and shooting 11.5 percent better than its opponents from two-point territory. The Wildcats rank third nationally in that department this season, allowing less points per 100 possessions less than last season’s nation-leading average. Six players score at least 9.4 points per game, led by senior wing Darrun Hilliard averaging 13.9. They made 11 of 22 from 3-point range and shot 63 percent, but the task is going to be tougher against the much bigger Wolfpack.

The top-seeded Wildcats bullied Lafayette 93-52 in the opening game, exploding to shoot close to 70 percent for most of the game and led by as many as 45 points. The quartet of Brandon Ashley, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Stanley Johnson and Kaleb Tarczewski is combining to shoot 54.5 percent (507-of-930) from inside the arc, pacing UAto a clip of 53.8 percent from two-point range and an average margin of +10.9 points per game in the paint. State got into the NCAAs without much drama.

In each of the last two seasons, Arizona has ranked among the national leaders in defensive rebound percentage with a mark of better than 72 percent each season. Head coach Mark Gottfried has taken Murray State, Alabama and N.C. State to NCAA Tournaments. They will have tremendous problems with Arizona’slock down defense and their sharp shooters.

Arizona is 28-1 (.966) this season and is 124-21 (.855) under head coach Sean Miller when it holds an edge in the rebound column. Despite an identical 10-8 record in league play as NIT-bound Miami, not to mention a head-to-head loss to the Canes, N.C. Arizona has thrown down 114 dunks this season for an average of 3.3 per game, and 293 in 73 games since the start of the 2013-14 campaign (4.0/game). UA currently has a +9.0 rebounding margin this season to lead the Pac-12 and rank second nationally.

Bolstered by a defensive effort that ranked fourth nationally in field goal percentage defensive and sixth in scoring defense, UA ranked first nationally in adjusted defense in 2013-14. The Wildcats are currently securing 77.6 percent of available defensive rebounds this season, the top mark in the country.

Guards Trevor Lacey, Ralston Turner and Kat Barber complement each other nicely, combining for 41 points per game and shooting over 38 percent from 3-point range (184-for-475). Villanova ranks 23rd in points per game (76.3) and 13th in assists per game (15.9).

This N.C. N.C. Of course, they’ve earned their 33-2 record, winning 16 of 18 in Big East play, suffering losses to Seton Hall in OT and in a flat performance at Georgetown. His top finish is reaching the 2009 Final Four and he’s also reached two Sweet 16s and an Elite 8. The Tigers blew a huge second-half lead by missing its last 12 field goals and six straight crucial free throws down the stretch. Junior center Daniel Ochefu and senior JayVaughn Pinkston are the key to this perimeter-based bunch due to their ability to hold the fort down in the paint. Conversely, UA clamped down on opponents inside the arc, allowing them to shoot just 42.3 percent from two-point range to rank 14th nationally.. Center Beejay Anya made it pay off with a buzzer-beater

Sen. John McCain: ‘Cloud’ Over Super Bowl Because of ‘Slow’ NFL Scandal Response

It’s a diversion,” McCain, R-Ariz., said on the ABC/ESPN podcast “Capital Games.” “It’s unfortunate that this whole issue of ‘deflate-gate’ is overshadowing it. They gotta get this issue behind them as quickly as possible,” McCain added.

McCain added that he’d like to see congressional hearings on expanded legalized sports gambling, given the proliferation of casino-style gambling throughout the country and the enormous sums that are bet on events like the Super Bowl through illegal channels.

And Geoff Freeman, the president and CEO of the American Gaming Association, talked about the billions being wagered illegally on sporting events. Lindsey Graham?

“Every question and every allegation that remains unanswered hangs out there and does damage,” he said. The program explores the intersection of sports and politics with interviews with political figures and sports insiders. “Or maybe it means that the people we represent are deeply concerned about this issue.”

With his home state set to host the Super Bowl this weekend, Sen. He said he doesn’t sense movement in Congress toward expanded sports betting, but noted that pushes by states, including New Jersey and Delaware, are moving the conversation along.

“Maybe this means that we don’t have enough to do,” he said. has been very slow in assuring those of us who pay close attention that they are taking enough action to find out what happened.”

McCain and some of his colleagues have been critical of Goodell all year for not being more proactive in addressing the league’s various challenges. “I have the greatest affection and appreciation of Sarah Palin. Lindsey Graham,” McCain said. in particular. John McCain said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s plodding response to scandals and diversions have contributed to a “cloud” over the biggest sporting event of the year.

Palin’s office did not immediately respond to request for comment.

McCain said the “Deflate-gate” scandal, in particular, has been a big item of conversation on the Senate floor.

McCain shared his Super Bowl pick — the Patriots, he said, citing his “mixed emotions” about the Seattle Seahawks’ star cornerback Richard Sherman, as an Arizona Cardinals fan.

Also on “Capital Games,” ESPN NFL analyst Andrew Brandt said the league has been in “reactive mode” all year, a situation that was highlighted by “Deflate-gate.”. “Any objective observer is saying that Roger Goodell was either in over his head or did not understand the gravity and the importance or both the Rice thing and ‘Deflate-gate.'”

“The discussion is beginning, and that’s a good thing,” Freeman said.

“It’s been a question of credibility all year long,” said Brandt, a former NFL executive.

“There’s a cloud. “They gotta get their act together. But I think in this time of great national peril, with the rise of ISIS and the challenges that we face worldwide, I think Lindsey is best equipped to address the challenges to our nation’s security.”

McCain said Goodell has done further damage to the NFL in the aftermath of allegations that the New England Patriots used partially deflated footballs in their AFC Championship win, the game that got the team to the Super Bowl.

Another Victory For Sports Betting, in New Jersey

New Jersey is bearing $10 billion of a collective $95 billion debt carried by U.S. The bill would allow wagering on pro and college games in Atlantic City and at the state’s racetracks if a federal ban on sports betting is reversed. And Lesniak is optimistic about the upcoming challenge against the Sports Protection Act. “It should not take long in U.S. Four states — Nevada, Delaware, Montana and Oregon — are already exempt from that law.. “Other than mild encouragement, [other states] let us carry the ball for the rest of the country,” Lesniak said.

Lesniak remains undaunted, saying if the court addresses substance over procedural issues, the outcome should be a no-brainer in favor of his side. And it’s doing so without much help. Lesniak, through his law firm, filed suit last year to strike down the ban. District Court to get a decision,” he said.

Fresh off a victory in his state on the path towards legalizing sports betting, New Jersey state Sen. He cited a letter in which the Justice Department objected to Congress’ passing the law because it violated states’ rights. Chris Christie, the New Jersey attorney general could file suit in federal district court as early as this month to try to overturn the federal prohibition, Lesniak said.

Attorney Peter Dugas, director of government affairs for the Washington, D.C., firm Clark Hill, said no challenge has come close to eliminating the sports betting ban and that a different outcome was “really questionable.”

The economic funk is empowering gambling proponents like Lesniak, who is also behind a state online gambling bill.

Momentum has been building for pro-gambling forces. Raymond Lesniak pledged Tuesday to take the fight nationwide.

Americans bet $100 billion a year on sports, legally or otherwise, according to the University of California, Los Angeles gambling studies program. states in 2012. States should be allowed to determine how they raise revenue, particularly when four states are already given the privilege, he said.

New Jersey’s expected battle with the Justice Department would be a rematch of sorts. But the federal appeals court threw out the suit, declaring that the state itself would have to file the action.

If New Jersey’s challenge succeeds in overturning the 1992 Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, people could bet on the Super Bowl and other sporting events in any state that legalizes bookmaking. While other states are looking to generate revenue through casino gambling, New Jersey is taking the lead on sports betting. Following an expected signature of the measure by Gov. Lesniak believes that all that stands in the way of cash-hungry states getting their share though sports betting is persuading the court that the law is unconstitutional. The Justice Department this month eased its interpretation of the Wire Act, opening the possibility for states to pursue online gambling for games such as poker. The letter was addressed to Joe Biden, the current vice president who was then chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

On Monday Lesniak, a Democrat, succeeded in rushing a sports-betting bill through the state legislature. And the Garden State is losing gambling revenue to Nevada and betting rings run by organized crime, Lesniak said. He firm handled the work pro bono, he said

Into the Pool: NCAA Tourney Betting Booms

There’s just one catch.

Still, gambling Web sites soliciting bets on the NCAA tournament persist.

But even police officers in college basketball hotbeds generally feel they have more pressing matters to attend to than ferreting out NCAA pools.

There is one expectation this policy, however: Internet-based sports gambling sites. Betting on the NCAA tournament is rampant on college campuses and the Web as well.

A Web of Gambling

So you’ve filled out your NCAA tournament grid for the office pool. It all adds up to a colossal national gambling binge. citizen, I don’t care where you are,” says Silberling.

The site managers protested they were within the legal boundaries of the countries in which their sites were registered, but law enforcement officials don’t buy that rationale.

But the National Gambling Impact Study Commission, formed by President Clinton, released a 1999 report citing surveys showing that well over 90 percent of all sports betting nationwide takes place off the books.

And basketball pools are not limited to offices. Ron Evans of the police department in Durham, N.C., where the nation’s top-ranked college team, Duke, is located. Indeed, no one knows just how much money is wagered — and perhaps diverted from the economy — on brackets and the 63 games over the three-week tournament period.

“The common thing we hear is that it’s in the billions, but it’s impossible to know,” says NCAA spokeswoman Jane Jankowski.

You’ve probably broken the law, too.

“I see it as relatively harmless endeavor, a chance to make a large profit off a small investment,” Al adds. Gambling on college sports is against the law almost everywhere in the United States except for Nevada. “I have as good a chance of winning as anybody.”

But cracking down on workplace or collegiate betting pools is not easy. (Vermont passed a law last year allowing limited betting on the NCAAs.)

Almost All Sports Bets Are Off the Books

Yes, it’s time for that familiar springtime ritual again, as all across America, millions of people — from college basketball diehards to others who don’t know if George Mason is a person or a school — take the time to fill out an NCAA tournament bracket, in hopes of making some quick cash and earning bragging rights among friends and co-workers.

“It gives me more of a reason to watch the game with interest,” says Al, a business student in New York who says he enters a pool almost every year — and asked not to be identified by his full name.

Most estimates place legal Nevada-based betting on the NCAA tournament in the range of $60 million to $70 million every year — second only to the Super Bowl as a cash bonanza for Las Vegas bookmakers.

“People just don’t complain about it,” says Sgt. “Win CASH MONEY!”

“Office pools would be a local violation,” explains FBI spokeswoman Tracy Silberling. According to the NGISC, Americans wagered $630 billion in 1998 — and came away $50 billion poorer for their troubles.

And while Congress has discussed legislation banning virtually all gambling on college sports, the big business of betting shows no signs of disappearing in the near future.

“It’s a huge problem,” acknowledges Silberling.

If accurate, that would push the total wagered on the NCAAs across the country closer to $1 billion.

But betting pools, however ubiquitous, are not legal. Federal authorities have used a 1961 law making it illegal to use interstate phone lines while placing or accepting a bet to crack down Web sites offering a chance to make wagers.. So it usually falls to area police departments to enforce the law.

The first such bust occurred in 1998, when federal authorities in New York arrested 14 people for running a total of six “offshore” Web sites.

It all helps feed a massive industry. “Everybody goes in knowing the result may be they don’t win.”

“It’s illegal to take money from a U.S. Nor is it high on the priority list of the nation’s law enforcement officials.

“March Madness is here!” shouts one site, registered in Antigua and Barbuda. You’re watching the games on TV and hoping for a payoff

Casino-Gaming :: Brisbane Turf Club – A Long History

On 1 July 2009 the Club merged with long time rival Queensland Turf Club to become the Brisbane Racing Club. The Doomben Cup is now considered one of the best middle distance races in Australian racing.

In 2009 comes the biggest change of all for Brisbane Turf Club. Not only will new grandstands be built and new trackside facilities and stables developed, but also substantial new car parking and there is even talk of boutique hotels and apartments on the course.

The Brisbane Turf Club has passed; long live the Brisbane Racing Club!

The Brisbane Turf Club has been a premier Queensland racing club since it was incorporated in 1923. Dash, Barney Joyce and Allan Oxlade bought Albion Park in 1922, from its former owner John Wren. As of 2009, the name Brisbane Turf Club ceases to exist, so read on for the history of this well-known Queensland club.

Other notable dates in the Club’s history were the introduction of the Queensland Horse of the Year Award in 1971, and the extension of membership to women in 1980. The new Club has announced a $10.2 billion master redevelopment plan for both racecourses over the next ten years. The turf track is a clockwise course with a circumference of 1715 metres with a 350 metre straight.

Although some might say that Brisbane Turf Club is finished, it appears that the Brisbane Racing Club will be a more than worthy successor. It was not until 2001 that the Club was incorporated.

Only a decade later, the young club expanded by buying the land, which would become the Doomben Racecourse – which was opened in 1933. Located 7.5km north of Brisbane’s CBD in the suburb of Ascot, Doomben is known as the Garden Racecourse – because of its natural beauty.. The difficulty of running two major racing organisations in a city the size of Brisbane has seen the economic necessity of the two organizations combining resources. In 1946, on the reopening of the track, the TM Ahern (now the Carlton Draught Doomben 10,000) and the Doomben Cups (now the XXXX Doomben Cup) were first run. Based at Doomben Racecourse, the Brisbane Turf Club has come a long way since those early days at “the creek” when it was a swampy marsh, and now it’s the trotting venue, Albion Park racecourse. Afterwards, for the last sixty years, the Brisbane Turf Club has built the track up to be one of Queensland’s best-known horse racing venues. For punters, nothing will change, however, as they will still be able to watch their favourite horses and place their racing bets at either the Eagle Farm or Doomben courses.

In 1982 the Club sold its original course, Ascot Park, in order to fund significant expansion of what is now the world-class Doomben Racecourse. The following year, this consortium formed the Brisbane Amateur Turf Club as the club was originally called.

The Doomben Course was closed during World War II, and US troops were billeted there during the Pacific War. The beginnings of the Brisbane Turf Club were when G.M

How did the rules of baseball develop?

As a civil war general, Abner Doubleday was famously indecisive – his troops derisively called him “Forty-Eight Hours”.

Alexander Cartwright had a hand in compiling and publishing an early list of rules in 1845 (the so-called Knickerbocker Rules) to meet the demands of the already popular sport, and today’s rules of baseball have evolved from them.

Source(s):

Baseball is thought to be a direct descendant of cricket, rounders, and town ball (which was much like rounders). Also, a British letter dating from 1748 by Lady Hervey describes how the then Prince of Wales diverted his time playing baseball.

Another early mention of the game can be found in an 1886 edition of Sporting Life magazine, in a letter from Dr. It contains a wood-cut illustration of boys playing “baseball” (showing a similar set-up to the modern game) and a rhymed description of the sport. Cartwright, who was called the “father” of baseball, simply modified the rules of an already existing game into a sport that more closely resembles the game that is played today. Matthew Harris of Boston, Massachusetts, formerly of St. Abner Doubleday is another man who is sometimes associated with the origins of baseball, but there is little or no evidence to support that claim. In fact, back in Doubleday’s time, all biographical references to the man discuss only his civil war service. The first explicit references to baseball appear to come from England. The earliest known mention of the sport is in a 1744 publication, A Little Pretty Pocket-Book by John Newbery. Betting on Sports 6 Winning Rules by Don Stark

If you?re winning, the 2% per wager automatically increases as your bankroll increases. If you bet 3 teams straight action and only win 2 of the 3, you?ve just made money. Since you?re reading this, you?re probably part of that majority. Secondly, never wager more than 2% of your total bankroll on any single wager. Unexplainably, wins and losses often times run in streaks, so slowly increase your bets on a hot streak and back off on cold streaks. Most people just don’t have the time to properly study things like past statistics, line moves, trends, angles, valuable lines, inflated numbers, and much, much more. The payoff odds and point spreads are not carved in stone throughout the industry, and on any given day, they can vary greatly between different shops. For example, if you live in California and become an expert on the PAC 10, you can increase your chances of winning by focusing on just your niche.

People all over the world love to bet on sports. Hook them all together in a parlay and you must win all 3, or you?re sunk. Conversely, if you?re on a losing streak and the bankroll goes down, the size of your bets will decrease accordingly. Over the course of a year, that ?, 1, or even 2 point difference will come into play many times, and trust me?it will add up to a lot of money.

Rule #6 ? Seek a Professional – There is a wealth of valuable information available on the Internet but you have to take the time to do proper and thorough research. That gives you an automatic advantage over the bookie, so use it to the fullest extent. If betting on sports is more than just a recreational pastime, or if you just don?t have the time or resources for Rule #5, seriously consider employing the services of a professional sports handicapper. Stick with 2% and never double up and chase lost money.

Rule #3 ? Spend Some Time Shopping ? This can be compared to shopping for a new car or even for groceries. If you?re sick, you go see a doctor. Whichever group you fall into, sports wagering must be treated the same as any other financial investment. Rule #5 ? Perform Due Diligence – As a bettor, you normally have the opportunity to do research well in advance of having to make that final decision on a wager. After checking several well-established and solid options, decide on 2 or 3 of them, and then divide and deposit your initial bankroll equally amongst each one. If you set aside $1,000 for gambling, your individual bets should be in the $20 range and no more. If it were really possible for anyone to consistently pick 3 out of 3, parlays (and teasers) wouldn?t be offered by the sports books. It?s a proposition for losers only, so don?t do it.. To be successful at anything, your mind needs to be 100% clear and functional. Yes, you can bet a 3-team parlay, and if you win, it normally pays in the vicinity of 6 to 1 in football and basketball. Stick to straight action only. While some do it just for recreation or to make watching a TV game more exciting, there are others who will always wager on their favorite team or player, period. Then, before making your wager(s), check each book and always take the best number on your particular event. Never wager more than you can afford to lose, so be honest with yourself on what you can comfortably set aside for recreation or otherwise. If you?re serious about winning more bets than you lose, you should listen to a professional.

Whether you?re a recreational player or actually doing it solely for a profit, may you always have more winners than losers, and always remember to have a lot of fun along the way, but stick to the rules.

Rule #2 ? Never Gamble Under the Influence ? To coin a phrase, ?Speak when you?re drunk and you?ll probably make the biggest speech you?ll ever live to regret.? The same sensible theory applies to betting on sports. Always look for the best prices or the best numbers. Research several sports books thoroughly and compare the numbers. One of the best ways to win at sports wagering is to maybe find your own special niche and then follow it closely. To be done properly (and profitably), here are some very crucial rules one must follow.

Rule #1 ? Use Proper Money Management ? This rule is the one that is most neglected and explains why Vegas keeps on building all of those multi-billion dollar casinos. Drugs (legal or otherwise) and alcohol can cloud your judgment and will lead you into making decisions that you normally wouldn’t make. However, there is an elite third group out there who bet sports with one and only one purpose in mind?to make money. Watching ESPN and/or reading opinionated articles by sports writers on the Internet is not the proper way to do your homework. If you?re on medication, drugs, or alcohol, or if you?re just in an upset or disturbed mood, be smart and don?t play until you?re back to 100%.

Rule #4 ? DO NOT Play Parlays or Teasers ? Parlays, teasers, and other exotic wagers are offered for a reason
